Learn about finding your sunshine home in Spain from our experts and real people who’ve already done it – everything from where to live, to buying your home, to starting your new life in the sun.

Whether you’re on a tight budget or ready to splash out, whether you’re looking for land to develop or for an ancient cave house, the secret to finding your perfect property in Spain is to work with an agency who listen to your requirements and advise you professionally and in your language, helping you find, buy, manage, and sell your property. We at Sandtons can do this for you and so much more.
Luckily, you can get a feel for a place in many ways.

Here are our top five tips to help you.

Tip 1

Look at our location guides.

Use our location guides to size up the different areas. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at our introduction to the Costa del Sol explaining the different areas and what they have to offer. When you’ve narrowed it down to the locations you like, you can look in more detail at the individual resort towns. From there, you can make a shortlist of places you like the sound of.

a refreshingly unspoilt pueblo with an appeal all of its own

San Pedro de Alcántara is in an ideal location, only two kilometres west from all the glitz and glamour of Puerto Banús next to Marbella, yet just a few minutes drive away from the natural beauty of the Sierra de Ronda Mountain range. An ancient farming community, once famous for sugar cane, today San Pedro is a refreshingly unspoilt pueblo with an appeal all its own. Narrow streets are packed with intriguing small shops, sidewalk cafes and bars, whilst the beach area and promenade is expansive, fresh and modern with many beach bars, cafes and restaurants.

New property developments are more limited in this old town, there are select offerings in beach homes and many people who work in marbella choose to live here to be closer to the beach. An old town of traditional villas and apartments, that serve up an expansive selection of property types for all types of interested buyers.

Easily accessible from the international airport of malaga, less than 30 minutes and in walking distance on the beach front to the exciting puerto banús.Homes provide varied living opportunities, from the most discerning exclusive homes to excellent value apartments, both resales and new builds. Many properties offer both long-term and holiday rental income.

Listen to like minded people

Tip 2

There’s nothing like advice from someone else who’s been in your shoes. That’s why we started our podcast series. Take time to listen to other people’s journeys to finding the perfect home in Spain. You’ll see they are very candid about the successes and pitfalls they encountered along the way.

Tip 3

book a holiday

You’d never agree to move in with someone you met online without meeting them first, and likewise, you shouldn’t choose your neighbourhood from pictures and words on the internet. It’s so important to take a trip to the place you might be calling home so that you can see for yourself and listen to your instincts. But don’t fall in love until you’ve met face-to-face!

contact sandtons & arrange some viewings

Tip 4

Now is the time to see if you can find a house that’s both suitable and within your budget. You can check our property listings on Sandtons by location. When you’ve made a shortlist of potential properties, use our contact form to make a viewing appointment. It’s good to fit as many viewings as possible into an extended viewing trip. It’s a big decision, so it is worth a separate trip to your holiday.

While you’re there, we can let you know about schools, healthcare and public transport. You could also go to the various expat meet-ups or organised groups. Even if you don’t intend to mix with people from your country of origin after the move, it will help at this stage to speak to people who have already located to the region. Sandtons can give you recommendations for services you might need, like local solicitors, builders, or banks.

Tip 5

Rent in the short term

Don’t be disheartened if you don’t find the perfect property at first. It is a big decision and a huge change, and renting can offer a good halfway compromise. If you have children starting school and want to see how it suits them, or if you have a new job role starting and want to get used to your commute, or even if you’ve simply not seen THE home you dreamed of, rent for a little while. Get registered with all the relevant authorities, start the logistics of moving your belongings and begin to get used to your new lifestyle before purchasing that big-ticket property. Then you can be sure to get what you want.
